Aquatic garden fish
Aquatic garden fish are a decorative and symbolic addition to any water
garden. Koi are the most common fish found in water gardens (Nishikigoi,
Butterfly koi, and Ghost koi). Goldfish might seem a good choice, but
most goldfish are not suited to pond life.
Golden Orfe, Golden Tench, Rosy Red Minnows, and Mosquitofish are other
common and hearty aquatic garden fish. Be aware, though, that any man-made
pond with fish in it must be run with a pump and filter or the fish
won’t get enough oxygen.
Aquatic garden fish come in all colors and sizes. The Orfe is silver
with red fins. The tench have a carp-like shape with olive-green skin
and a square caudal fin. The Rosy Red Minnows are actually fathead minnows
and are a common feeder fish.
